Formal college education in Australia is made up of the university educational system and its supporting components such as school extension programs. Getting a formal degree formally carries with it the cachet of approval with great prestige. The educational standards of Australian are at par with most Western schools since most of their faculty had obtained their degrees in these Western countries such as the U.S. and U.K.

In the case of Western Australia, it has four public universities and only one private university. Each one of them offers a different course but all adhere to the same standards of instruction. Foremost among them is Notre Dame University which is Catholic. The other schools equally notable are Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University.
The Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia Incorporated (AISWA) is the ultimate governing body representing all the independent schools in Western Australia. It has 100 independent schools as members. These schools have a combined student population of 37,000 and employ some 2,500 teaching staff and 700 non-teaching staff. The Catholic Education Office of Western Australia is the peak body representing all Catholic schools in Western Australia.
